It was a good year. Carlos* started high school and To Kill a Mockingbird was required reading. I loved reading along with him on the weekends.
Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father’s passin’.
― Reverend Sykes in To Kill a Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books. Dill was from Meridian, Mississippi. I lived in Meridian for eight years. But it’s the wisdom of Atticus and the courageous, compassionate Jean Louise that make the book for me.
In March, Carlos and I went to the March for Our Lives rally. My sign read, Having a gun around’s an invitation for somebody to shoot you. Grateful for the timeless classic by Harper Lee.
